Our beginning.

I started the company in 1986; it was part time and happened by accident.

Jackie my wife, I and our 2 kids at the time were in JC Penny looking in the TV section as I often liked to do. I was working for the Cable Company as a Chief Field Technician at the time and had no experience with video cameras.  I saw a camcorder, it was one of the first all in one VHS camcorder. It was a tube camera and the quality was terrible compared to the new CCD and CMOS HD cameras of today. The sales man was smart, he saw me looking at the camera and suggested that I film my kids running around and so I did, than he played the footage back in the VCR and TV which he had all set up, probably for this very purpose.  Well it worked. When I saw my own kids on video I realized that this was something I needed to be doing so I went into debt and bought a camcorder that I had no plans to get in the first place.  I do not recommend shopping like this but it just happened, I guess it was seeing my own kids that sold me.

Once I got the camera home and began filming my own family I realized that this was something I could do for other people. However I thought it might be good if I got some formal education about video production so I enrolled in the communication courses at Middlesex Community College. John Schaffer was my professor at the time. Prior to taking the job as professor at Middlesex Community College he was the Cinematographer for the movie "The Natural".  I learned a lot that year in college but one thing that Professor Schaffer told me I will never forget. I was graduating and was going to purchase some professional equipment to start my business officially so I asked John what he thought about purchasing a special effects generator and he looked at me and said, “You don't need a special effects generator you need good camera techniques.”  He said if you can use your camera to create transitions and even special effects than you will be a great film maker. Twenty four years later I still practice that advice and always seek to shoot and compose the best shots as well as think about how I will transition to the next scene. I believe good camera work is the secret to being a good film maker unless of course you are creating The Matrix or something. These types of movies are meant to be filled with special effect.
